I love these newsletters! I just found super sweet corn at the market and made a dish with raw corn kernals, cherry tomatoes, can of black beans, whatever roasted veg is in the fridge, and casero / feta cheese crumbles. Drizzle oil, salt, lime. That's it. So good when it's hot out!
Tour de France Unchained is totally addicting! And after watching it last year I finally got into the tour, after 13 summers of only half watching it for the scenery with my husband who’s a cyclist and loves it.
Hot days dinner: Mediterranean bowls! Persian cucumbers, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, pickled red onion…build your own bowl with rice or quinoa, greens, and chicken if you want. We top it with a lemon-garlic-tahini sauce that takes two minutes to make.
This is so good. It is real and honest, and now I know I'm not the only with a four year old who is uniquely adept at generate perfect Google search terms.
Loved this newsletter!! What an evocative description of summer - the pool days are ones we are living too. The Tour de France: Unchained show is wild and insane and I love it. The summer recipe I am making the most is grilled corn with a smoked paprika/chili/lime mayo (Kewpie mayo for life!) and cilantro and pickled red onions. It goes with everything and is delicious.
My 5yo’s current search terms are “side loader garbage truck toy” (narrator: he already has several of these that he never plays with and Christmas is 6 months away) and “real life cone snail stinger.” Motherhood is truly everything I had dreamed it would be. 🫠
parenting in Cape Town, South Africa and just want to confirm that all kids are the same (youtube kids, resin earrings, pokemon cards round here too) ❤️
This feels incredibly nostalgic. I have vivid memories of plopping down in front of the tv , still wet from our backyard pool (one of the flimsy, temporary above ground ones, of course), and watching endless Nickelodean cartoons while being blasted with icy air from our window AC. Those were the days, amiright?
Lovely as always - Aftersun is a recent favorite so I’ll have to see Janet Planet. Maybe a hot soup in summer is odd (my slice of North African heritage I guess), but I crave Jary when it’s 100° out. A nice balance of mint, cilantro, lemon and parsley. I swap quinoa for bulgur - http://soupsong.com/rjary.html
BLTs!
A truly great sandwich.
I LOVE BLTS...and so do the kids and husband
Always love these dispatches. I am frankly so afraid of our kid discovering google/the internet/everything, really.
you write about my life
just read out loud to my kids and they thought it was hilariously on point. abe now wants a neon cactus.
haha, me too, Abe, me too.

Speaking of Molly Baz, this is one of my favorite summer recipes if you can find fresh sugar snap peas. I often eat it just as a salad, without the ricotta and bread - https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/dilly-beans-and-peas-on-ricotta-toast

This is giving me horrifying flashbacks to what my YouTube history looked like when my 6 and 9 year old nieces would visit. 😂😂😂
Rotisserie chicken from the store, fresh bread, salad (lettuce with oil and lemon), maybe some cheese and fruit?

I made the roasted cabbage and chickpeas for dinner last night. It was a hit and not just because I already had all the ingredients. Thanks!
