Highlights magazines are my go-to for my 8 and 9yo daughters. Not an activity book, but they’re still as good (or almost as good) as when we were kids.

I used to 💰 CLEAN UP 💰 babysitting in high school. I watched 3 girls for a family at least once a week - mom & dad took date night very seriously! That led to several other jobs, even the coveted summer nanny gig. At $15/hour plus a little extra, I often had an extra $500 floating around.it felt great to have that independence, even if I was spending it on silly things.

"the kids only have school 13 (out of 30 lol) days of April" -- I feel this so much! I don't think I worked a five-day workweek in March b/c of school closures (and my own mini vacation ahem, lol), which some might be jealous of the freelance flexibility, but I find it impossible to actually get anything done! April isn't shaping up to be much better.

And thank you for the restaurant rec in Park Slope!

We are on vacation and I "hired" our favorite 10 year old neighbor to check in on our cat for a few days. His parents will come with him but I hope this sets the stage for him to become our regular petsitter down the road and eventual babysitter. How else are these kids going to earn money and learn responsibility?
